At St George Preca, the explicit teaching of mathematical concepts often occurs alongside play- and project-based learning. Mathematics is often taught in real-life, authentic contexts so that the learners develop deep and connected understandings. Students work on open-ended tasks so that the learning is personalised and challenges each individual.
Explicit teaching in whole-class, small-group and individual learning times focuses on developing specific mathematical skills and knowledge in accordance with the Victorian Curriculum. These concepts are structured under the strands: Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.
